AI search visibility for B2B SaaS startups

AI search optimization, also called generative engine optimization (GEO), is the work of getting your product named and cited when buyers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google’s AI answers which tool to choose. It’s one part of the marketing work I do with B2B SaaS and AI startups, and it starts from the questions your buyers actually ask.

Why AI search matters for a B2B SaaS startup

In G2’s 2026 survey of 1,076 software buyers, 51% said they now start research in an AI chatbot more often than in Google, and 69% said a chatbot recommendation changed which vendor they chose. Source: G2.

The shortlist matters because buyers rarely leave it. 6sense found that 95% of the time, B2B buyers pick a vendor from their day-one shortlist. Source: 6sense. If an AI answer builds that shortlist and your product is missing, the deal is usually gone before your sales team hears about it.

Younger SaaS companies have a real opening here. AI assistants name the products that are described clearly and mentioned often across the sources they read, and a focused startup can earn that faster than it can outspend a market leader.

What’s included

  1. 01

    Buyer prompt baseline

The 20 to 30 questions your buyers ask before choosing a tool like yours, run across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google AI Overviews. You see who gets named, how each product is described and which pages get cited.

  2. 02

    Citation source map

The review sites, comparison pages, communities and publications the assistants draw on for your category, and the ones where your competitors appear and you don’t.

  3. 03

    On-site fixes

Answer-first product, use-case, comparison and alternatives pages, structured data, and one positioning sentence used the same way across your site and profiles, so models describe you consistently.

  4. 04

    Off-site plan

A ranked list of places to earn mentions: review platforms, roundup articles, community answers from your founders and LinkedIn, with the pitch or action for each.

  5. 05

    Monthly tracking

Mention rate and description accuracy per assistant, referral traffic from chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai, and the demo requests that came from AI search.

How it runs

  1. Weeks 1–2Buyer prompt baseline and citation source map, reviewed with you on a call.
  2. Weeks 3–6On-site fixes and new pages shipped with your team, plus the first off-site placements.
  3. MonthlyRe-run the prompts, report what changed and pick the next priorities.

Who it’s for

  • B2B SaaS or AI startups from seed to Series B
  • A category where buyers compare several tools before choosing
  • A team that can publish page changes within a week or two

Questions about ai search visibility

What is the difference between SEO and AI search optimization?

SEO earns rankings in Google’s list of results. AI search optimization earns mentions inside the answers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews write. The two share foundations: crawlable pages, clear answers and authority from other sites. AI assistants also lean on search indexes when they browse, so I work on both together.

How long until ChatGPT mentions my product?

It depends on your category and how much is already written about you. Consistent work usually shows first changes in AI answers after 8 to 12 weeks. Nobody can guarantee a placement in an AI answer, and I say so up front.

Which AI assistants do you track?

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot, weighted by where your buyers actually research.

Do we need G2 or Capterra reviews?

Review sites are among the sources AI answers cite most for software, and G2’s 2026 research found buyers treat review-site citations as the strongest trust signal inside an AI answer. If you have customers, we plan how to collect honest reviews.

Is AI search visibility only worth it for big brands?

Smaller brands often win the specific questions: a use case, an integration, a company size or an alternative to the market leader. Those are the questions buyers ask once they know what they need, and they are where a startup can be the clearest answer.
